Job Description: Heavy Equipment Operator
Functional Summary:
This position is a direct report to the site foreman or project manager. The heavy equipment operator is responsible for the safe, proficient, and efficient operation of many pieces of heavy equipment depending upon the job. These can range from a large excavator weighing 75,000 lbs. to a mini excavator weighing 4,000 lbs., differing dozers, loaders, graders, and rollers. This position also will perform maintenance in the shop on heavy equipment and vehicles at the direction of the shop manager during down and slow periods.
Key Responsibilities:
The responsibilities of the heavy equipment operator include, but are not limited to:
- Takes direction from site foreman or project manager
- Is able to communicate clearly with Foreman and co-workers
- Works in a safe manner and follows safety protocols outlined by the project foreman
- Works in a productive and orderly manner
- Keeps equipment maintained, and site clean and organized
Safety:
- Adherers to the company’s Safety manual, and company’s safety culture
- Participate in weekly safety meeting
- Work in a safe responsible manner to not intentionally or unintentionally injure one’s self or endanger the well-being of others
Qualifications:
Education, Training and certifications
- High School Diploma or GED Preferred
- Valid Driver’s License - Preferred
Work Experience
- Construction trade experience preferred

Working Conditions
- Work is performed in an outdoor setting, which could include inclement weather, extreme temperatures, and work sites will have uneven and inconsistent work surfaces
- Must be able to regularly lift 50 LBS and on occasion lift 100 LBS
- Kneeling and bending is regularly required
- Use of Personal Protective Equipment is required
- Travel may be required
- Overtime as required
- Working at height
- Work attire – Tee shirts to have a minimum of a 4” sleeve with our company logo, pants, and appropriate work boots
- Drug and Alcohol use will not be permitted during working hours
